Beautiful Thai ladies jump out at you and if you survive the first, few pages you will be hooked. Like the Pattaya punter who “loses” his air-ticket home, like the long-stay expat who extends his retirement-visa beyond his death-certificate, you won’t be going back in a hurry, and when you’ve finished the “roller-coaster ride” (aka this book), you’ll knock back a couple of Red Bulls and hit the town!

I decided to get "Sexy Thai Bar Girls And Me", the new version of "Collected Selected Words", because I liked the old version and wanted to read the updates. The additions are mainly about ladyboys and updates on the Pattaya bar scene. The tone is very light and funny but underneath the smile there is a lot going on and Finch is not going to let his reader get away with a superficial glance at the Pattaya scene. However, he is a writer who aims to entertain. As amusing as ever, I think the book has been improved by Finch's additions. The title itself should appeal to more readers. The book is still literary but has spread its net and should appeal to anyone interested in Fun City, aka Pattaya. The novel deals with change as well, and how Pattaya punters and expats can become unhappy with all the so-called fun which is sometimes described as a mask behind which many problems are hidden. This is a fun book but also a book about serious problems.Product details

I have never been to Thailand, although I know many who have and they all paint a very vivid picture of life there.
Mr Finchs first book Collected Selected Words was an extremely funny, and revealing account of his life in the country.
It would have been difficult to imagine his first book could have been improved on, yet this updated version I am happy to say has proved me wrong.
Well written and no holds barred, if you have never been there it is a must read.
A funny, well written account of adventures and life in Pattaya. Anyone who wants to know Thailand should get this book. There are also long, serious sections about England and life in Italy. It's a good book and I enjoyed it.
I grabbed this one because I liked the author's previous Collected Selected Words. He's got a unique style of writing and a VERY unique story. Few people get to have this guy's experiences in real life, but at least you can read about them and learn how he got there. Pattaya is bananas. Thanks Jonathan Finch for doing the legwork!
Sexy Thai Bar Girls and Me
Jonathan Finch, in between snap shot glimpses of the bar scene, takes you behind the curtain and gives the reader an intimate and honest look at his childhood fears, home life and selected reasons for leaving the U.K. It is a journey, a meandering trail that’s well worth the travelling. His brutal truth about his own short comings left me with feeling something therapeutic and reassuring. I like him, wish him a long and smiling life in a paradise that seems to be shrinking. The book was recommended by a friend. This was my first encounter with Jonathan Finch's work, but it won't be my last. I've been to Thailand several times, but never traveled far from Bangkok. It was always a stop to or from a mountaineering expedition in Nepal. But some of my mountaineering friends related experiences to me about "sexy Thai bar girls". One friend fell in love with a bar girl in Phuket and lived with her for a couple months. I've been propositioned by pimps with photos of sexy Thai girls, when leaving the Bangkok airport. But I went no further than a quick look at the pictures. So, Finch's tale was about a world I had sort of peeked into, but didn't have any real experience of it. Frankly, I'm glad to have encountered it through "the pen" of a raconteur like Finch than risked my own health and well-being.
The book is serious, funny, a how-to manual, and poignant. The characters you meet in Pattaya, Thailand will stay with you.
